Eating Disorder

Eating disorder is a common issue nowadays and should be discussed seriously. In Malaysia, the number of cases is increasing . Eating is normal for every person however if it deviate from the normal one, it becomes disorder. Anorexia, Bulimia nervosa and Binge eating are the examples of eating disorder. Our role here is to recognized these people and we have to help them to prevent further complications. Please take note that , eating disorder can be a serious problem if it is left untreated. So lets learn this things together!


 
Restrictive type
      - eat very little + vigorous exercise
      - often withdrawn with OCD traits

Binge/Purging type 
      - binge eating followed by purging,
        laxatives,excessive exercise,diuretics
      - a/w major depression, substance    abuse

 From history, we can get variety of complaints. However, patient may also present with loss of conscious and fatigue due to not eating.


Anorexia not only affect your body, it can also affect your mind. We can think the complications of anorexia from head to toe. 



Bulimia nervosa is a binge eating combined with inappropriate ways of stopping eating such as self-induced vomiting (purging), abuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive exercise . It can occur in a normal body weight person.








Depression

yes. everyone in this world has ever experienced episodes of depression in life. but that's normal especially when a life event get involved for example loss of loved ones. But what is more important that i want to highlight here is that when the symptom of depression is prolong . That is something abnormal and need a special precaution. It might be related to psychiatric illness. 



What is mood?
pervasive and sustained feeling tone that is experienced internally and that influences a person's behaviour and perception of the world.

What is mood disorder?
when a person loss of sense of control and experience a great distress.

What differentiate sign and symptom of loss of consciousness between syncope with hypoglycemia ?

Most probably syncope have high tendency to rapid recovery after remove causes and maintain the circulation. However hypoglycemia was noted if patient have history of diabetes and have significant drug history that lead to DM emergencies... Hyperglycemia was seldom noted as emergency in dental  practices as we checked the RBS (random blood sugar) of the patient before attempt any procedure. Indeed it not cause any emergency situation as like loss of consciousness except for effect the treatment outcome.
